Week Long Hospital Stay

Mom, Dad and Macayla have done an awesome job this week in the hospital.

Mom: I am feeling much better. They told me at the beginning of the week that every time I stand up it will get easier. Although I continue to be on regular doses of pain medicine, I've made huge gains. I am able to stand from bed with a lot less hesitation. I am able to sit down on the bed while holding Macayla where before I had to take several minutes to sit and get adjust before someone handed her to me. I still have a lot of recovering to do, but I feel comfortable with going home tomorrow (Friday)

Dad: Dad has been awesome! He is very concerned for his two ladies. He makes sure that I rest as much as possible. Whenever I've needed assistance he jumps to attention and has been extremely supportive and helpful. Since we have been here ALL week, Jason has gone to work for a few hours the last 2 days. The first day he walked Macayla down to the nurse's station before leaving. Later that day the nurses told me that it took him forever to leave. He kept saying "How can I leave? She keeps looking at me with those beautiful eyes." Eventually the nurse had to turn her around so that she wasn't "looking" at Jason. He has mastered the art of swaddling and has bravely taken on 2 dirty diapers. Both of these tasks he wanted to do by himself, but had the nurses standing near by helping guide him. Again, Jason has been incredible!

Macayla: Macayla, as you would expect, sleeps all the time. When she is awake, however, her eyes are SO big and she is very, very alert. Her constant sleeping has gotten in the way of feeding her. The first couple of days we would attempt to feed her every 3 hours, but during the day she wouldn't wake up. She ended up losing 5% of her weight (not unusual) so we then decided the doctor decided that even if she isn't awake, she needs to eat every 3 hours. We accomplished getting her to start feeding every 3 hours, but the problem is she falls asleep during feedings. Now she has lost a total 0f 10% of her original weight so the Pediatrician is having us supplement a half ounce of formula after each feeding. Hopefully when she is weighed tomorrow she has not lost any more weight.

The plan is for us to go home tomorrow. There is no official "checkout" time, so Macayla and I will spend the day here while Jason works. My mom is coming back to help out during the day and get us ready to go home. The only reason we would not leave tomorrow is if Macayla's weight is still an issue. If it is, she might have to spend another day here. Of course this is not what we would want, but her health is what is most important.

We want to thank all of you for the congrats, thoughts and prayers. We can't wait for everyone to meet our beautiful baby girl!
